Party Secretary Vu Dai Thang signs MoU to establish a major aircraft maintenance hub at Van Don Airport

As part of the official visit to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, on the morning of October 30 in London, General Secretary To Lam and the high-level Vietnamese delegation attended the Vietnam-UK High-Level Economic Forum and witnessed the signing of important multiple cooperation agreements between ministries, government agencies, local authorities, and major enterprises of both sides.

Among these was a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on research and development of an aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility at Van Don International Airport, signed between Quang Ninh Province, Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company Limited (HAECO), Sun Group, and VinaCapital Holdings. In addition, Secretary of the Quang Ninh Party’s Committee Vu Dai Thang also had a meeting with Vina Capital and HAECO to discuss this project in detail.

 

Earlier, at the invitation of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, General Secretary To Lam, accompanied by his spouse Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly and a high-level Vietnamese delegation, paid an official visit to the United Kingdom from October 28-30. Mr. Vu Dai Thang joined the delegation as part of the official program.

 

During the visit, General Secretary To Lam held talks with Prime Minister Keir Starmer, during which both sides issued a Joint Declaration to upgrade Vietnam-UK relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The General Secretary also met with UK parliamentary leaders to discuss measures to strengthen bilateral ties, received the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Britain (CPB), and attended the Vietnam-UK High-Level Economic Forum.

 

In addition, the delegation met with executives from leading UK corporations and financial institutions, attended a seminar on artificial intelligence and semiconductor technology, and engaged with representatives of the Vietnamese community in the UK.

 

The visit took place on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Vietnam-UK Strategic Partnership (2010-2025), a significant milestone that allowed both countries to reflect on their achievements, highlight key successes, and set a new vision and direction for bilateral cooperation in the years ahead.
