With the launch of the “Two Countries - One Destination” itinerary, visitors can explore the majestic natural landscapes of Hoanh Mo while experiencing cross-border culture.
In recent years, the two border localities have actively taken steps to realise this tourism route. Since the official opening of the Hoanh Mo - Dongzhong bilateral border gate, survey programmes, pilot tours and business matching activities have been enhanced. Notably, in early April 2026, Hoanh Mo Commune invited experts from the Japan International Cooperation Agency to assess tourism potential and provide recommendations for developing community-based and eco-tourism in a sustainable direction.
On that basis, initial tour itineraries under the “Two countries - one destination” concept are gradually taking shape. On the Hoanh Mo side and nearby areas, highlights include forested and mountainous landscapes, as well as the cultural identity of highland communities. From the border gate, visitors can travel to attractions such as Binh Lieu weekend market, Khe Van Waterfall, Cao Ly Mountain and Cao Ba Lanh for activities including trekking, cloud hunting and camping. Villages such as Song Mooc and Cao Son are developing community-based tourism, offering immersive experiences of local life, cuisine and traditions.

Upcoming cross-border tourism activities are expected to boost the appeal of border tourism and open up a new, attractive tourism product.
Meanwhile, Dongzhong offers a complementary set of experiences. Surveys and bilateral coordination have identified strong potential for activities such as stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), hot spring bathing, agricultural experiences and exploration of borderland cuisine. While Hoanh Mo appeals with its forested mountain landscapes and indigenous culture, Dongzhong serves as a light leisure stop for relaxation and tourism-related consumption.
With its resource foundation and proactive connectivity efforts, the “Two countries - one destination” route shows strong potential for developing border tourism in Quang Ninh. Beyond crossing a geographical boundary, the journey is expected to offer an experience of cultural exchange and the rhythms of life in the border area, creating a distinctive and promising tourism product.
