In 2026, Quang Ninh Province set a target of welcoming at least one million tourist arrivals to Yen Tu World Cultural Heritage, part of the UNESCO-recognised Yen Tu – Vinh Nghiem – Con Son, Kiep Bac World Cultural Heritage Complex. According to the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the heritage site has already received approximately 1,000,600 tourist arrivals since the beginning of 2026, a 2.2-fold increase compared to the same period last year, surpassing the full-year target ahead of schedule.

Visitors practicing meditation at Dong Pagoda can experience moments of profound stillness and reflection, fostering a deeper connection with the philosophical teachings of Buddhism.

Of the total, more than 655,000 tourist arrivals travelled to the sacred mountain, while the pagodas along the outer route and the Truc Lam Cultural Centre received approximately 345,600 tourist arrivals.

Visitors flock to Yen Tu for pilgrimage and sightseeing.

In July 2025, the Yen Tu – Vinh Nghiem – Con Son, Kiep Bac World Cultural Heritage Complex was officially inscribed by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage Site, reaffirming Quang Ninh’s sustained efforts to preserve and promote national cultural and spiritual values. This recognition has also provided strong momentum for Yen Tu to become an increasingly popular destination, attracting over one million visitors in just the first five months of 2026.

International visitors enjoy local cuisine at the foot of Yen Tu Mountain.

UNESCO recognition has opened up new opportunities for Yen Tu in tourism, services and cultural development. In 2026, Quang Ninh Province has designated the year as the “Yen Tu Tourism Year”, identifying it as a key initiative to promote heritage values, enhance the destination’s profile and fostering spiritual and cultural tourism. The initiative aims to position Yen Tu as a year-round destination through a wide range of tourism activities, promotional campaigns and demand-stimulation programmes.

The special art programme “Sacred Yen Tu – A Millennium of Heroic Spirit” attracts around 10,000 people.

A harmonious combination of preserving traditional values and enhancing modern services has enabled Yen Tu retain its distinctive identity while meeting the increasingly diverse visitor demands. In addition, Quang Ninh’s policies offering free admission until December 31, 2028, together with free parking for cars and motorbikes at Ha Kieu Station until December 31, 2026, has created more favourable conditions and further attracted large numbers of tourists.

Wellness tourism is becoming an increasingly popular choice for visitors to Yen Tu.

Looking ahead, Quang Ninh Province will continue to promote Yen Tu during the summer tourism peak season, while rolling out a series of cultural, sports and tourism events imbued with its distinctive heritage values throughout the year. These efforts are expected to further enhance the appeal of Quang Ninh’s spiritual and cultural tourism products and diversify visitor experiences in Quang Ninh.
